Children’s Day 2025 poster celebrates culture, Country and creativity

by Fiona Alston

June 18, 2025

The official poster for National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day 2025 has been unveiled, featuring powerful First Nations artistry that celebrates identity, land and self-expression.

SNAICC – National Voice for our Children – launched the 2025 poster as part of the lead-up to Children’s Day on 4 August, a national celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, their strengths, and their futures.

This year’s artwork was created by Tovani Cox, a proud Bunuba, Gija and Karajarri woman from the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The image was captured on Arrernte Country by photographer Jesse Tyssen, and brings together themes of cultural strength, creativity and connection to Country.

Displayed in early learning settings, and communities across Australia, the Children’s Day poster is a visual centrepiece of the annual campaign.

It supports the principles of the National Quality Framework (NQF), particularly within Quality Area 1 Educational Program and Practice and Quality Area 6 Collaborative Partnerships with Families and Communities.

The poster also offers a practical opportunity to embed Outcome 2 of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) children are connected with and contribute to their world by promoting cultural identity, belonging and respect for diversity in early education.

Ideas for educators: acknowledging Children’s Day in early learning settings

Children’s Day is a powerful opportunity for early learning services to celebrate culture, promote identity, and create space for children’s voices.

Educators can use the day to deepen children’s connections with Country, community and self through age-appropriate, inclusive activities. Here are some ways to get involved:

  • Storytelling sessions: Sharing picture books by First Nations authors that explore identity, belonging and Country. Using stories to spark discussions about culture, families and diversity.
  • Art experiences: Inviting children to create their own artworks inspired by this year’s poster. Explore colours, symbols and styles used in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art.
  • Language and song: Learning a local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander word, song or greeting and incorporating it into daily routines.
  • Cultural learning walks: Taking a walk on or around the service’s grounds to talk about the land and whose Country you’re on. Discuss natural features, native plants or animals.
  • Yarning circles: Creating space for children to share what makes them proud, who is in their family, or what they love about where they live.
  • Poster display and discussion: Displaying the 2025 poster in a prominent space and exploring its imagery, artist and message with children. Asking children what they see, feel and think.

These activities support intentional teaching, cultural responsiveness, and outcomes across the EYLF especially Outcome 2 Children develop a sense of connectedness to groups and communities and an understanding of their reciprocal rights and responsibilities as active and informed citizens and Outcome 3 Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.

SNAICC encourages educators, services and families to download and display the poster as a meaningful way to honour the day and enrich learning environments.
