ECEC Provider in Focus: Djinda Dreaming

Djinda Dreaming Education has seven sites at locations across Western Australia providing before and after school care, vacation care and long day care options for children birth – 12 years of age.
What is the history of Djinda Dreaming?
Djinda Dreaming is the brain child of Ben and Jane Chambers. Jane has been operating childcare services for 21 years in the South West and Perth Metro areas while Ben is a proud Kalkadoon man from Mt Isa, QLD.
Together the couple share culture with their children, friends, family, and community. They have seven children, including five of their own and two foster children, all of whom are of Kalkadoon descent and were born and raised on Whadjuk Noongar land.
Because of their deep connection to culture, the pair decided to create an early childhood education and care (ECEC) option which offered every child a safe and supportive environment where they could be immersed in culture and build strong community connections.
What is the Djinda Dreaming vision and approach to learning?
Djinda Dreaming aims to create an environment where children can thrive in a culturally rich, supportive environment.
“We are not just a childcare provider; we are a cornerstone of the community, offering all-encompassing support and celebrating the vibrancy of Indigenous Australian heritage within our curriculum,” information on the website notes.
Are there any unique aspects to the Djinda Dreaming offering?
Djinda Dreaming offers a transport service, offering additional support to families and children who might otherwise struggle to access care and connection.
The provider also extends employment opportunities to individuals who have experienced domestic violence, have been in foster care, or simply need a supportive community to help them up-skill after being out of the workforce for many years, as part of its overall goal of making a difference not only to the children in their care but also to its team and the broader community.
