Wilston Kids Care celebrates Exceeding rating in all 7 quality areas
Outside school hours care (OSHC) provider Wilston Kids Care has recently been rated as Exceeding the National Quality Standard (NQS) in all seven quality areas during a recent assessment and rating visit.
The service is known for being one of the very few large traditional ‘set-up and pack-down’ services in Queensland, co-sharing facilities on a State School site. It is not purpose built, and is operated as a business unit of the Wilston State School P&C.
The not-for-profit service offers up to 260 places for school-aged children, and has “transformed” its service provision over the last five years with a demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
In 2016, when the service was last assessed, the rating given was Working Towards the NQS.
“Our focus has been on providing an environment that allows child-directed learning while supporting a child’s individual strengths, building their confidence and teaching them lifelong skills,” said General Manager Raeleen Wren.
To be awarded the Exceeding rating, she said, is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team, who are thrilled by the result.
Regular activities at the service include a community garden, Lego, e-sports, fitness, sustainability and creative minds clubs.
The service has its own Student Advisory Council and Foodie Friday Cooking Club and hosts a popular vacation care program, with offsite excursions, incursions, yoga sessions, culture immersion, movie making and more.
In 2022, the service also participated in an inaugural inter school handball competition, hosted by Grand Avenue OSHC, with other P&C-operated OSHC services at Grand Avenue State School.
