Planning permits submitted for two new ECEC services in Knox

Planning permits have been submitted for two new early childhood education and care (ECEC) services in Knox, a local government area in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
Developments in Boronia and The Basin are on the cards. The proposed Boronia centre, submitted on behalf of Hume Childcare Property Ltd, estimated to cost nearly $4 million to develop, providing education and care for 131 children under the care of a team of 25 educators.
The second proposed service is located at 1206-1208 Mountain Highway, The Basin, over the road from The Basin Primary School — and is estimated to cost $2 million to develop. Should the development application be successful, approved provider Eden Academy would develop the site.
108 children would be accommodated at the Eden Academy build, cared for by 18 staff. The Basin is classified as a “childcare desert” under recent research from the Mitchell Institute at Victoria University published in March 2022.
Eden currently operates nine centres and has a plan for ten more to open by the end of 2022.
