PRECI launches national support to help embed the Best Practice Framework into everyday practice

Early childhood intervention (ECI) and early childhood education and care (ECEC) professionals across Australia will have access to new implementation supports designed to help translate the National Best Practice Framework for Early Childhood Intervention into everyday practice.

Developed by Professionals and Researchers in Early Childhood Intervention (PRECI), the national initiative aims to support organisations, practitioners and leaders as they move from understanding the Framework to embedding its principles across services, teams and interactions with children and families.

The initiative follows the release of the National Best Practice Framework in late 2025 and responds to sector feedback highlighting the need for practical resources, professional learning and support to strengthen consistent, high-quality approaches to early childhood intervention.

The National Best Practice Framework provides a shared approach to what quality early childhood intervention looks like, outlining the principles and practices that support positive outcomes for young children with developmental concerns, developmental delay or disability and their families.

While the Framework provides national guidance, PRECI recognises that meaningful change happens through implementation, when principles are embedded into everyday decision-making, relationships and service delivery.

For services and practitioners, this includes considering:

• how the Framework aligns with current practice;
• how teams build shared understanding and consistency;
• how leaders support workforce capability; and
• how evidence-informed approaches are embedded into daily interactions with children and families.

National workshops and professional learning

As part of the implementation initiative, PRECI will deliver a series of supports designed to help professionals and organisations apply the Framework in practice.

This includes a National Road Trip, featuring free in-person implementation workshops across Australia.

The workshops will provide opportunities for participants to:

• explore the Framework in more detail;
• discuss practical implementation approaches;
• consider challenges and opportunities; and
• connect with other professionals across the sector.

PRECI will also facilitate consultation sessions focused on emerging professional standards for the early childhood intervention sector, providing an opportunity for practitioners and organisations to contribute to future workforce and practice guidance.

A key component of the initiative includes Practice-Based Coaching (PBC) training, supporting professionals to strengthen reflective practice, coaching capability and continuous improvement.

The training is designed to assist leaders and practitioners to translate knowledge into consistent practice, supporting teams to embed the Framework over time.

The Framework reflects key elements of high-quality early childhood intervention, including:

• family-centred practice;
• evidence-informed approaches;
• capability building;
• inclusion and participation;
• cultural responsiveness; and
• collaboration across services and systems.

For ECEC settings, these principles reinforce the importance of inclusive environments where children can participate meaningfully and where educators, families and other professionals work together to support each child’s development.

As conversations continue around inclusion, disability support and the future of early childhood services, PRECI’s implementation initiative aims to support greater consistency in how evidence-informed early childhood intervention is understood and delivered.

By providing practical learning opportunities and implementation support, PRECI hopes to assist organisations to move beyond awareness of the Framework towards sustained, embedded practice.
