Little farmers, big wins: local childcare shines at the Gatton Show

From prize-winning produce to standout textile art, children from Lockyer Valley Early Education Centre proudly showcased their creativity and curiosity at the 2026 Gatton Show, with Queensland Childcare Services (QCCS) celebrating the region’s rich rural traditions.
Held on 17 and 18 July, the Gatton Show brought the Lockyer Valley community together to celebrate local agriculture and learning.
Children and educators earned recognition across several categories, including first place for baked blueberry muffins and Farm Kindy photography. A highlight was the children’s textile art display, showcasing technology through knitting and sewing.
QCCS General Manager Laura Faalili said the Gatton Show provided an opportunity for children to connect with their community.
“The Gatton Show allows children to see and experience the world around them in a natural setting,” Ms Faalili said.

“Celebrating the Lockyer Valley’s agricultural heritage, it strengthened children’s sense of belonging and supported inquiry-based learning.”
Through children’s exhibit entries and interactions with the local farmers, young ones deepened their understanding of agricultural heritage and rural life.
Lockyer Valley Early Education Centre Nominated Supervisor Caitlin Stait said the children were excited to see their work displayed amongst the region's best contributions.
“Seeing their creations proudly exhibited to the community, including textile art and fresh produce, was an important moment of pride for them,” Ms Stait said.
“These experiences enabled children to become connected and capable learners and encouraged an appreciation for local industries”.
