Educators to be celebrated on World Teachers Day

Each year, World Teachers’ Day offers a moment to recognise the dedication and impact of educators across Australia and on Friday 31 October, Queensland will join the celebration. In early learning settings, schools and specialist programs alike, teachers play a vital role in shaping the lives of children and young people.
Teachers across Australia inspire, support, and empower young people every day. World Teachers Day Queensland on October 31 is a chance to officially thank these wonderful educators.
Belinda Skinner, who teaches at Carinity Education Glendyne in Hervey Bay, is “passionate about helping students rediscover their confidence and develop lifelong skills through creativity, compassion, and connection”.
“I love watching students experience success in ways they never thought possible. Seeing that spark of pride and self-belief is the most rewarding part of teaching,” Belinda said.
Aden Bennett’s favourite thing about teaching at Carinity Education Shalom in Townsville is “learning from my students and seeing the world through their diverse perspectives”.
“Building meaningful connections and relationships with young people is what makes me love coming to work every day,” Aden said.
A teacher at Carinity Education Southside in Brisbane, Lisa Wuoti strives to “create an environment where students have the opportunity and will to shine”.
“The best part of being a teacher, hands down, is watching students grow into their confidence. Seeing that spark when they realise, ‘Hey, I can do this!’ is what keeps me driven,” Lisa said.
Dean Peattie enjoys seeing how his Industrial Design and Technology students at Carinity Education Gladstone react when they finish a project they once thought was impossible.
“The look of pride on a student’s face and the boost in confidence when they’ve completed a project, that makes it all worth it,” Dean said.
Some of Cheryl Hendry’s most memorable moments teaching at Carinity Education Rockhampton have been outside of school, learning she has made a lasting impact on young people beyond the classroom.
“My favourite thing about teaching is being able to share with young people the joy of learning. Being a lifelong learner is, I believe, something that shapes our lives in a positive way,” Cheryl said.
For Meg Beaven, the best thing about teaching at Carinity Education Shalom is “the rapport you can build with students” and “the way you can see them grow over their time in the classroom”.
“Being part of a community where every child is known, supported, and encouraged to reach their potential is something I deeply value,” Meg said.
Laura Peleseuma loves “being able to know each and every student” at Carinity Education Shalom.
“Every day brings something different. It’s the small moments that are the best: the light-bulb moments, the moments of connection, the breakthroughs, the proud smiles,” Laura said.
Belinda Culley aims to create a visual arts classroom at Carinity Education Southside where “every student feels seen and valued” and “uses creativity to inspire confidence, curiosity, and a belief in their own potential”.
“Being able to offer encouragement, consistency, and compassion can make a real difference in their lives, and it’s a privilege to be part of that journey.”
As World Teachers’ Day is marked across Australia, it is a powerful reminder of the influence teachers have in shaping not only academic outcomes, but confidence, identity and lifelong learning. Through compassion, creativity and meaningful relationships, these educators are helping children see their own potential and lighting the way for a brighter future.
