Preparing for National Child Protection Week 2025

National Child Protection Week, led by NAPCAN, will run from 7–13 September 2025. Grounded in the enduring principle that “Every child, in every community, needs a fair go”, this vital campaign invites all Australians to transform conversations into protective action for children and young people.
This year’s theme, “Every conversation matters: Shifting Conversation to Action,” reinforces that while discussion is essential, real impact lies in turning that dialogue into meaningful steps that support children’s safety and wellbeing.Open, empowering conversation is the foundation of child protection. Whether between children and caregivers, families and educators, or community members and services, these dialogues help identify risks, foster trust and encourage early intervention. The theme highlights the role of adults as active protectors moving from hearing to helping.
NAPCAN has developed a comprehensive suite of free resources for early years services, schools, libraries, and community hubs, including:
- Posters, social media kits, email signature tiles and downloadable assets
- Children’s activity booklets that promote meaningful participation
- Media releases and messaging kits to amplify campaign awareness
Wellbeing Australia has also released targeted resources to assist educators, libraries and OOSH services in planning inclusive programs aligned with the week’s objectives.
In Queensland, Child Protection Week is coordinated by the Child Protection Week Committee and supported by the Queensland Government. The initiative includes community events such as parent and child activities, morning teas, live shows, and free book giveaways, all under the shared message: “Protecting children is everybody’s business.”
NAPCAN CEO Leesa Waters has emphasised the need for action beyond words. As part of this year's campaign, all community members are encouraged to:
- Check in with neighbours, peers and families
- Model kindness and support for others, especially parents
- Intervene safely when something seems wrong
- Actively include children’s voices in conversations and decision-making
National initiatives such as Bravehearts Day also provide a moment to stand in solidarity with survivors of child sexual abuse and raise awareness during the week.
National Child Protection Week 2025 is an invitation to take meaningful, everyday actions to support the safety and wellbeing of children. With practical resources, local events and a collective shift towards a more responsive culture, educators, caregivers and communities can build a future where all children feel heard, safe and valued.
