Kids Alive Heart Beat club to support water safety

A new initiative from Kids Alive and Royal Life Saving Society WA is offering free CPR and first aid training for educators, families and carers, equipping those closest to children with vital lifesaving skills.
Early learning professionals and families across Australia now have free access to CPR education through The Heart Beat Club, an initiative backed by Kids Alive and delivered in partnership with the Royal Life Saving Society, Western Australia.
The program aims to improve community-wide water safety by empowering those who care for young children with the knowledge and confidence to respond to emergency situations.
This initiative is especially significant for early learning settings, where educators often act as first responders. By offering targeted, accessible training, The Heart Beat Club strengthens sector readiness while supporting family partnerships and community capability.
Available via an online learning platform, the free course takes under an hour to complete and covers key CPR knowledge, including:
- What to do in an emergency
- Performing CPR on babies and young children
- Understanding DRSABCD
- Responding to common drowning scenarios
Laurie Lawrence, founder of Kids Alive, said the partnership with Royal Life Saving reflects a shared commitment to reducing preventable child deaths.
“Our goal is simple, to get CPR training into every household and early learning service in the country,” Mr Lawrence said. “Everyone should know how to respond in a water emergency.”
The course aligns with broader early childhood education and care (ECEC) safety frameworks, reinforcing Quality Area 2 of the National Quality Standard, which focuses on children’s health and safety.
