WASAP funding window opens soon, supporting WA families with education costs

Claims for the WA Student Assistance Payment (WASAP) will open at the end of April, financially supporting Western Australian families to meet costs of education including books and IT equipment, sport and music costs, stationery, school shoes, uniforms, excursions and camps, plus other extra costs, including food and groceries.
The payment is available to parents and carers of students from Kindergarten to Year 12, with the claims window open from 28 April to 4 July 2025.
Cost-of-living payments for each child include:
- $150 for Kindergarten and primary school students
- $250 for secondary school students
Eligibility criteria
The WA Student Assistance Payment will be available to:
- Students from Kindergarten to Year 12 who are enrolled in a WA public school, non-government school, or are registered for home schooling.
- International full fee-paying students if they are enrolled in a WA registered school.
- Mature age students studying to achieve a Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).
- Students in family-based care.
- Students enrolled in School of Isolated and Distance Education, Christmas Island District High School and Cocos Island District High School.
Student eligibility will be validated through their unique WA student number (WASN) found on school reports, previous NAPLAN results and some high school student SmartRider cards.
Parents or guardians of students who have started Kindergarten or Pre-primary this year and who do not have anything with their WA student number should contact their school who can provide them with this information.
Making a claim
Claims open from 28 April 2025 and can be done through the ServiceWA app as well as other methods.
Families are encouraged to get ready to claim the payment now by downloading the ServiceWA app and setting up their Digital ID through myID. By logging into the ServiceWA app with their Digital ID, they can securely access the payment.
Those who need assistance in getting their Digital ID (required at a Standard identity strength), visit the Get your Digital ID page where there are detailed step by step videos and instructions. For more information about setting up the app, visit the ServiceWA support page.
Alternative claim methods will be available including via the Department of Education website, with paper forms to be made available where needed.
Things parents and guardians can prepare before 28 April when claims open
- If claiming on behalf of a child, get the student’s WA student number (WASN) ready. This 8-digit number is sometimes called a SCSA or student number. This number can be found on school reports, including previous NAPLAN results. It may also be on a secondary student’s SmartRider.
- The name, date of birth, school and year level of each student being claimed for.
- Those who choose to claim outside of ServiceWA will need to provide proof of identity based on a 100-point identity check.
- The bank account details ready where the payment will be deposited.
