Green Schools Grants program a chance for ECEC to secure funding for sustainability 

Sydney’s North Sydney Council is offering up to $3,000 in funding to early education and schools in its local government area as part of the Green Schools Grants program, supporting projects that tackle waste, emissions and local biodiversity.

Applications for the grants close Sunday 30 March and are open to preschools, childcare centres, primary and high schools.

The grants are designed to assist early childhood service and school-led initiatives that address topics such as plastic use, energy efficiency, water conservation, climate action and habitat restoration.

The program, Mayor Zoë Baker said, aims to foster environmental awareness at the grassroots level.

“Council is proud to support local schools to run on-the-ground environmental projects,” she said. “These initiatives can help protect our environment by reducing waste and carbon emissions, and contribute to healthy local wildlife habitats that thrive for future generations.”

Previous recipient Little Sprouts Early Education used its grant to install a water tank and Bokashi bin, expand a vegetable garden and restore its worm farm, while St Mary’s Primary School ran a “Catching Water” program to reduce catchment pollution and presented litter survey data to council with proposed management solutions.
