83 per cent of Australian companies have received AI-generated resumes that contained false information, a new report has shown, something which is “creating significant problems for recruiters.”
The 2024 Global Workforce Report highlights how AI generated resumes are creating significant problems, with 32 per cent of recruiters describing these issues as “a frequent occurrence.”
Conducted by Remote, a leading global HR platform for distributed companies, the report notes that more than 5 in 10 companies (54 per cent) also believe AI-generated resumes are leading to an increase in under-qualified candidates, with 64 per cent of them citing this as a significant issue for their business – over one quarter (25.6 per cent) even say it’s a very significant issue.
This comes at a time where the biggest hiring challenge that companies are facing is finding candidates with the right skills set (31 per cent). The Remote Global Workforce Report, which is based on interviews with over 4,000 business leaders of companies across 10 countries, found that the AI-generated or assisted resumes is a significant issue worldwide, with Australia experiencing the highest incidence at 83 per cent, followed by Germany at 77 per cent and the US at 71 per cent.
Jobs at senior and mid level positions attract the most frequent AI generated resumes. The larger the company is the more likely it is to receive a higher percentage of AI-generated resumes.
While sales, media and marketing attract the highest number of AI created resumes, education roles also had a significant number of AI generated resumes, with 77 per cent of recruiters citing this as a significant problem. “Two years since generative AI hit the mainstream, we’re seeing an increasing number of applicants using AI not only to enhance their resumes but also to support them during the interview process,” Anastasia Pshegodskaya, Director of Talent Acquisition at Remote said.
“In turn, businesses are relying on AI as well, to manage the thousands of applications they sometimes receive for a single role and to streamline the overall hiring process.” Access and download the full 2024 Remote Workforce Report here.
