Whittlesea preschools offered opportunity to access free sustainability sessions

Preschool providers in the Victorian communities of the City of Whittlesea and Hume City Council have been given the opportunity to access free sustainability incursions to educate and engage young children on the importance of caring for the environment via Melbourne-based resource recovery business Repurpose It.

The hands-on 45-minute sessions are tailored to the early years, and cover essential sustainability topics such as waste sorting, composting, and waste reduction.

During the sessions children will learn about aspects of sustainability such as making great compost, recycling food scraps and taking care of nature, led by experienced environmental educator Thom Fox.

“Through these interactive incursions, we hope to inspire the next generation to understand their role in protecting the environment,” Mr Fox shared with local news source The North Central Review.

“By instilling these values early, children can become active contributors to a sustainable future.”

Sessions align with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF), and have optional tailored gardening incursions to revitalise centre garden beds, to engage in further environmental education from Mr Fox, and to facilitate collaboration with early childhood teachers and educators to create learning experiences.

The sustainability incursion program complements Repurpose It’s Living with Purpose series, with Jamie Durie providing Australians with essential information and practical tips they need to feel confident about their role in the future of recycling.
