Giggletree Early Education was founded by Samantha Ahearn in 2005, later joined by her husband Matthew. The pair recently opened a long day care (LDC) service in Herston, Queensland.

What is the history of Giggletree Early Education?

Giggletree Pty Ltd, the broader operation under which Giggletree Early Education operates, was founded in 2005.

Since that time Ms Ahearn has been instrumental in supporting and elevating the performance, practice and pedagogy in over 70 early childhood centres, fostering their growth and development in meaningful ways as a consultant.

Giggletree Early Education was acquired by Ms Ahearn in 2023, as “the realisation of a long-held dream to directly impact the quality of early childhood education.”

“Under her leadership, the centre is on a steadfast journey to achieve a rating of excellence, driven by her extensive expertise and unwavering commitment to high standards,” Deb Callahan, Giggletree Operations Support Coordinator said.

What is the Giggletree vision and approach to learning?

The broader vision of Giggletree is to enhance the quality and accessibility of early childhood services nationwide, and to create environments where children, families, and educators can thrive together.

The Giggletree curriculum is designed to support each child’s individual growth, creativity, and unique learning journey.

The centre’s approach is rooted in the belief that children should be able to express themselves authentically and explore their interests in a nurturing environment.

The centre remains focused on integrating innovative practices and maintaining a child-centric approach, ensuring that every child feels valued and supported.

Are there any unique aspects to the Giggletree offer?

One of Ms Ahearn’s most significant contributions to the early childhood sector is the invention and launch of QikKids, one of the original Child Care Management Systems (CCMS).

Her work in this area has had a lasting impact, forming the foundation of many systems still in use today.

Additionally Ms Ahearn’s background in training, development and reform sees her bring a commitment to creating a community of learners to her capacity as an approved provider.

The service is guided by a Reggio Emilia and RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers) approach.

Finally, Giggletree Early Education stands out for its tailored program for immigrant families, recognising and addressing the diverse needs of the community. The centre provides specialised support to help immigrant children, and their families adapt and thrive in a new environment.

What is the Giggletree approach to educator identity and professional development?

The identity and professional development of educators are held in the highest regard. The centre believes that investing in its team is key to fostering a thriving educational environment.

A strengths-based model is used with Giggletree offering a number of professional development opportunities, empowering educators to continually enhance their skills and achieve their career goals.  Each team member has an Individual Educator Plan and investment is made in professional learning opportunities to ensure ongoing development.

Giggletree provides access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to offer emotional and psychological support when needed and the broader management team is committed to creating a supportive atmosphere, where educators feel valued, respected, and encouraged to grow both personally and professionally.
