CRCS preschoolers give back to local community with donated goods

Preschoolers from Capital Region Community Services (CRCS) have made some generous donations to support those in need in their local community, hand delivering donated goods to local charity Roundabout Canberra.
Making the trip in early August, preschoolers boarded the CRCS coach, each clutching a bag full of blankets, children’s clothing and other goods ready to drop off at Roundabout.
On arriving at the charity, which provides safe, high-quality essential baby and children’s items to families in need, the children took turns putting their donations into the donations trolley before supporting the volunteers by sorting through items being recycled and prepared for their new family, such as checking that donated puzzles had all the pieces.
As well as being heartwarming and building children’s awareness of and skills in sustainability and community engagement, the trip to Roundabout was supported by CRCS services across the Australian Capital Territory.
The donation boxes at CRCS’ Belconnen, Bruce, Bruce Ridge and Ginninderra centres were overflowing in advance of this event, enough to fill a whole coach.
“Our Early Education Centres are more than just childcare centres,” said Capital Region Community Services CEO Mandy Green.
“We are building the skills and experiences of young people in our community, making a direct connection to the recycling and sustainability activities we teach within our centres in an engaging and, of course, fun way.”
With the rising cost of living, the past winter has been particularly tough for local families, “and we have been appealing to the community to provide extra support through our Winter Appeal,” added Roundabout Canberra CEO Hannah Andrevski.
“We gladly accept preloved baby and children goods in excellent and clean condition. Every child deserves a safe start, and every family deserves dignity. We are delighted to welcome the children to our buzzing warehouse where we bring everything together, ready for its new home.”
