Hampton Community Kindergarten celebrates 80 years of education and caring

Hampton Community Kindergarten recently celebrated its 80th anniversary, having provided education and care for the children of Hampton, Victoria on the corner of Myrtle Road and Sargood Street since 1 June 1943.
The kindergarten originally occupied the site of the Hampton Methodist Church Hall before a new building was erected on the corner of Myrtle Road and Sargood Street, where the Kindergarten still operates from today.
Parents in the community contributed both physically and economically to the construction of the new building which was ready for use in 1956, where it has served as “a bedrock” for young families in the Hampton community ever since.
The not-for-profit kindergarten is run by parents and a volunteer Committee of Management which is elected each year.
Hampton Community Kindergarten president Dr Roslyn Sayers said the kindergarten plays a significant role in the community.
“Over eight decades Hampton Community Kindergarten has sat at the heart of the Hampton Community offering the best start to children and families, as they enter into Early Childhood education,” Dr Sayers said.
“We allow them to practice new skills, make new friends, engage in play and test their limits, to see what they can truly achieve.”
