Kingston’s young citizens offer comfort to older residents for Christmas

Children from Victoria’s City of Kingston’s Family Day Care and Outside School Hours programs have been busy making personalised Christmas cards and art works for residents of local aged care facilities to bring some festive joy.
Residents from Mercy Place (Corben, Northcliffe and Nixon), Blue Cross Gardenia in Chelsea, Parkdale Lifestyle and Blue Cross Chelsea Manor will receive cards, with educators saying that the children have connected warmly and sympathetically with the idea that Christmas can be an isolating and lonely time for some.Over several weeks the children have created beautiful cards and art containing heartfelt messages for more than 270 residents, all of which will be hand-delivered to each of the aged care homes by a representative from the programs in the week before Christmas.
Plans are already underway on how to spread more joy during Christmas 2023 by connecting the children and residents of other aged care centres across the municipality in a social setting.
