CCC commits to Uluru Statement from the Heart ahead of referendum

Early childhood education and care peak body, the Community Child Care Association (CCC) has committed to supporting a First Nations voice to parliament, unanimously deciding to support the Uluru Statement from the Heart following a recent Board meeting.
The Uluru Statement from the Heart calls for the establishment of a First Nations voice to parliament enshrined in the Constitution and the establishment of a Makarrata Commission for the purpose of treaty-making and truth-telling.
“Supporting a First Nations voice to parliament was an easy choice for CCC,” CCC Executive Director Julie Price said.
“Our mission is to lead, support and advocate for accessible high-quality opportunities for children and families. We believe a First Nations voice to parliament would mean better outcomes for First Nations children and families and are committed to doing all we can to help make this possible.”
“We have great ambitions for our sector, and supporting the Uluru Statement from the Heart not only aligns with our commitment to inclusion for all children, but also means a more equitable society,” CCC Chairperson Linda Davison added.
“We have great ambitions for our sector, and supporting the Uluru Statement from the Heart not only aligns with our commitment to inclusion for all children, but also means a more equitable society.”
A commitment to supporting First Nations people is embedded in CCC’s culture, with the team regularly engaging in learning and training about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and said that supporting the Uluru Statement from the Heart “is just an extension of that.”
In the lead-up to the referendum, CCC will look to play a role in educating the sector and share resources to help education and care services to understand what a First Nations voice to parliament might mean for them.
