NESA offers extension to early childhood teachers for accreditation
New South Wales early childhood teachers (ECTs) have been given an automatic extension until 23 September 2022 if the maintenance of accreditation was due on 17 July 2021 and if they were previously granted an extension until 1 July 2022.
An automatic extension until 23 September 2022 (week 10 of Term 3, 2022) for those ECTs who are:
- overdue or due in Term 2 or Term 3, 2022 (including due dates up to 22 September 2022)
- an early childhood teacher whose maintenance of accreditation was due on 17 July 2021 and were previously granted an extension until 1 July 2022.
The initial due date will remain the same in the ECTs NESA online account (eTAMS) despite the extension.
The NSW Department of Education has taken these measures to directly support teachers in response to current COVID-related supply issues. Other teachers who are concerned about completing accreditation requirements can apply for an extension to their due date.
Directors of early childhood services will need to verify the status of teachers, just like they check the Working with Children Check, First Aid Certificate and other qualifications.
The best way to do this is to view the teacher’s Summary Report on their e-TAMS, by visiting: Dashboard – Reports – Teacher Summary Reports.
Teachers can also print a copy of this report, the relevant sections to sight are the membership status as ACTIVE, the date and the accreditation level.
