AbSec – NSW Child, Family and Community Peak Aboriginal Corporation, commonly known as AbSec, has opened nominations for the NSW Aboriginal Child and Family Awards 2020, seeking nominations of individuals and organisations that have made remarkable contributions and outstanding achievements to improving outcomes for First Nations children and families.
AbSec is a not-for-profit incorporated Aboriginal-controlled organisation that works to empower Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities impacted by the child protection system, as well as support a quality Aboriginal community-controlled child and family sector to deliver needed support in Aboriginal communities across the state of NSW.
Award categories include Community Member of the Year, Carer of the Year, Practitioner of the Year, ACCO of the Year, Young Person of the Year, and for the Walking Together Award.
There are many opportunities for NSW bases services to become involved in the awards, the nominations for which close 4 October 2020.
In the Community Member of the Year category, services may recognise the contributions of an Aboriginal person in their community to the welfare and wellbeing of Aboriginal families, while in the carer of the year category, services may identity the outstanding contributions made by a member of their service in caring for an Aboriginal child or young person.
