Have you ever met a child who was not fascinated by water? From ice blocks to raindrops, children love to explore water. Come along to Little Scientist’s foundational workshop to explore STEM through the vehicle of water and the critical pedagogical topics of co-construction, metacognition, and inquiry-based learning in early education.
This workshop is available to early childhood educators in the ACT at the subsidised rate of $20pp (normally $215) thanks to an Inspiring Australia ACT grant.
This workshop is supported by Inspiring Australia ACT and the ACT Government.
⚠️ To ensure equitable access, a service may register a maximum of two early childhood educators. The workshop capacity is 20 participants.
In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to create rich STEM learning experiences and use water as a topic through which to teach the outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework. Interactive activities can include:
Experiencing the 3 Gateways of Learning.
Exploring the characteristics of water using all your senses.
Playing the water guessing game: “What’s making that sound?”
Exploring water vapour and making a cloud in a bottle.
Making dirty water and then purifying it.
Exploring the capillary action of water and trying to make the water walk!
This workshop explores the fascinating relationship between chemical reactions and language development in early childhood. Come along to learn how to recognise chemistry in children’s everyday lives, find opportunities for age-appropriate chemical exploration, and explore the pedagogy behind language development through STEM inquiry.
