National Pyjama Day returns: ECEC services encouraged to wear their PJs to support children in care

Early childhood education and care (ECEC) services across Australia are being encouraged to pull on their favourite pyjamas this July to support National Pyjama Day, an annual fundraising initiative led by The Pyjama Foundation.
Officially held on Friday 24 July 2026, National Pyjama Day invites schools, early learning services, workplaces and community organisations to wear their PJs, host an event and raise funds to support children living in foster care. Events can be hosted anytime throughout July and August.
Funds raised support The Pyjama Foundation’s Love of Learning Program, which connects children in care with trained volunteer mentors, known as Pyjama Angels, who provide one-on-one support focused on learning, life skills and confidence.
Children entering foster care may have experienced trauma, neglect and instability, which can affect confidence, relationships and their foundation for learning, The Pyjama Foundation notes.
Through the Love of Learning Program, Pyjama Angels visit children in care weekly, providing stable, positive relationships and support designed to help children reach their potential.
For ECEC services, participating in National Pyjama Day is a simple and joyful way to support a program focused on improving learning outcomes for children experiencing vulnerability.
Services can participate by hosting a PJ-themed day with children and educators, running a gold-coin fundraiser, creating themed learning experiences around reading and kindness, or encouraging families to donate online.
Registered participants receive a free host kit and access to downloadable fundraising resources to help promote their event.
Many services may choose to incorporate:
- story time in pyjamas;
- cosy reading corners;
- teddy bear picnics;
- pyjama parades;
- themed arts and crafts; and
- conversations about kindness, empathy and helping others.
These activities can support children to explore concepts of community, inclusion and care for others in age-appropriate ways.

National Pyjama Day provides early learning communities with an opportunity to strengthen community connections while supporting children in care.
Every dollar raised through the campaign supports children in foster care, with funds helping The Pyjama Foundation provide learning support, educational resources and positive mentoring relationships.
ECEC services can register, access resources and learn more via the National Pyjama Day website.
