MacKillop Education Geelong starts major redevelopment to enhance learning opportunities

MacKillop Education Geelong is pleased to announce the commencement of a significant redevelopment project that will deliver a new purpose-built primary school site and enhanced educational facilities for students across the region.
Demolition works at the existing site in Whittington started on Monday 21 September 2026, marking the first stage of a transformative project designed to create a contemporary,
purpose-built learning environment that reflects best practice in trauma-informed learning
and teaching spaces.
The redevelopment is supported through a $5.47 million contribution from the Australian Government Capital Grants Program, with additional support from the Victorian Catholic Education Authority (VCEA). MacKillop Family Services has contributed a further $1.38 million, bringing the total project investment to $6.857 million.
The project will include staged construction works and significant upgrades to the campus, creating facilities that better support the needs of students and staff.
Once complete, the redeveloped campus will enable MacKillop Education Geelong to provide a learning environment specifically designed for younger learners, while creating greater separation between primary and secondary-aged students. The redevelopment will also increase the school's capacity to support students who are at risk of disengaging from education.
Director of MacKillop Education, Rebecca Robinson, said the redevelopment represented a major investment in the future of education for vulnerable young people in the Geelong region.
"This project reflects our commitment to providing high-quality trauma-informed learning environments that support student engagement, wellbeing and educational success,"
Rebecca said.
"The redeveloped primary school site will create contemporary learning spaces that align with
best practice in education, while enabling us to expand access to our programs for students
who need additional support.
"We are extremely grateful for the support of the Australian Government Capital Grants Program, the Victorian Catholic Education Authority and MacKillop's own investment in making this important project possible."
Following completion of demolition works, an appointed contractor is expected to commence construction activities in mid-November 2026.
The redevelopment has a total value of approximately $6.8 million and represents a significant investment in educational opportunities for children and young people in the Geelong community.
