Grant funding boost to strengthen In Home Care early learning sector

The Australian Government has announced a targeted funding boost to support the sustainability of In Home Care services, helping ensure families who cannot access other approved early learning options continue to receive care.

The Albanese Government has launched the In Home Care Sustainability Support Grant, providing up to $5 million in one-off funding to help existing In Home Care services manage operational costs and maintain financial viability.

In Home Care is a specialised part of Australia’s early childhood education and care (ECEC) system, supporting families who cannot access standard early learning services. This can include families with complex needs, those living in remote or geographically isolated areas, and parents working non-standard or unpredictable hours.

For around 800 families across Australia, In Home Care is not simply a flexible option, it is the only viable pathway to approved early learning and care.

The grant recognises the financial pressures facing In Home Care providers and aims to support continuity of care for families who rely on home-based early learning.

Funding will support existing services with operational costs, with payments expected to be delivered by the end of June 2026. Eligible In Home Care services must apply for the grant.

Minister for Early Childhood Education Dr Jess Walsh said quality early learning plays an important role in children’s development.

“Quality early learning helps children develop the social, emotional and learning skills that open doors to school and life,” Dr Walsh said.

Dr Walsh also noted the importance of In Home Care for families who, for a range of reasons, cannot participate in centre-based care.

The funding forms part of broader efforts to maintain a diverse and inclusive early learning system, ensuring families with complex circumstances can continue to access appropriate early childhood education and care.
