Camp Australia to host Dr Kaylene Henderson in webinar about mental health
Outside school hours care (OSHC) provider Camp Australia is offering an opportunity for school leaders to learn more about the importance of mental health for children in the next of its popular Insight Series webinars.
“From Anxious to Resilient: Supporting School Leaders to Guide Today’s Students” will be presented by renowned Child Psychiatrist Dr Kaylene Henderson on Wednesday, 4th September 2024, at 12:30 PM AEST.
The provider has chosen this topic in response to feedback from principals regarding their primary concerns and will explore the macro context and localised impacts of increased anxiety and reduced resilience among primary school students.
According to Camp Australia’s principal survey, 50 per cent of school leaders want more resources and strategies to support student mental health, and 74 per cent cite it as the biggest wellbeing challenge at their school.
Dr Henderson will provide an understanding of the causes, effects, and a range of actionable solutions to assist children in classrooms and that educators can implement to foster resilience and reduce anxiety among primary school students.
“Schools around Australia are all reporting a noticeable rise in mental health challenges and reduced resilience among their students,” Dr Henderson said.
“Yet there hasn’t been a corresponding increase in the provision of mental health services. As children and families struggle with access to professional support, it seems to be falling upon teachers and school leaders to meet children’s emotional and mental health needs.”
The session will attempt to empower school leaders by giving them the knowledge and tools needed to support their students to manage anxiety and build resilience so that they can continue to learn and thrive.
Dr Henderson’s webinar is being offered free of charge by Camp Australia, and is tailored to principals, school psychologists, guidance counsellors, and wellbeing leads.
To further support in this important area Dr Henderson is offering each school who attends a free registration to her Courage Coaching course to share with a family in need.
Courage Coaching is a 6-week online course by Dr Kaylene Henderson for parents wishing to help their anxious children aged 4-12 years. Under her expert guidance, parents are empowered to become their children’s in-house ‘Courage Coach’, allowing them to ease their children’s anxiety and guide them towards greater bravery and resilience.
School leaders across the country are invited to register for this crucial session. For all states except Queensland, please register here. Queensland school leaders can register here.
