Early childhood development in QLD supported through RFW and Glencore pairing

A $400,000 plus partnership between Royal Far West (RFW) and Glencore Coal Assets (Glencore) will allow children and families in the communities of Central Western Queensland communities of Collinsville, Clermont and Springsure to more easily access the developmental health services that are often difficult to secure in remote and rural communities.

The three year partnership will make paediatric speech pathology, occupational therapy and psychology services more readily available for three to five year-old children and the adults who care for them, RFW chief executive Jacqui Emery shared.

“Services such as these can help children reach their full potential and create a positive flow-on effect to parents, families and the wider community,” she added.

“At Royal Far West we see first-hand the positive impact that early developmental support has on the health and wellbeing of children and their families, and we firmly believe this is something that should be widely accessible to all children, no matter where they are located.”

Glencore community relations manager, Craig Strudwick shared this sentiment noting Glencore is pleased to provide support to the communities they work in, and that initiatives such as these are “ just one way we can support our operational communities.”

RFW will support kindergartens and early childhood centres in these regions by providing developmental health screenings, assessments and therapy services for young children.

As part of the initiative, RFW will also provide support and information to parents and carers, and professional development and mentoring programs for educators and other interested professionals.
