Only About Children boosts professional development for ECTs following feedback

Early childhood teachers (ECTs) employed by early childhood education and care (ECEC) provider Only About Children (OAC) will soon benefit from a new Professional Development Series which has been developed based on their feedback.

The series will begin with a two-day event focused on Indigenous perspectives after ECTs identified this as an area of need during internal feedback processes.

The event will be facilitated by Jessica Staines, a proud Wiradjuri Woman, Early Childhood Educator and founder of the Koori Curriculum. Jessica is passionate about supporting teachers in embedding respectful Aboriginal perspectives in an Early Childhood environment.

“Our ECT survey has allowed us to identify a range of interest areas from our ECTs, and develop a new Professional Development series that is relevant to their interests and needs”, Vera Aysom OAC’s ECT Program Lead explained.

“The objective and key outcome of this first in series, two-day event is to enable and teach our ECTs about how they can embed Indigenous perspectives in our OAC Grow Curriculum”.

Ms Aysom’s role is unique to OAC, and she has NESA endorsement to mentor and supervise ECTs through their initial accreditation process as well as supporting their professional development through the maintenance of their accreditation.

OAC ECTs are welcome to attend one or both days of the two-day event. Focus topics include ‘Aboriginal Pedagogy & Australia has a BLAK history’ and ‘Embedding Aboriginal Perspectives in Early Childhood Curriculum’.

The series not only supports the professional development of OAC’s ECTs but can contribute up to eight hours of ‘Elective Professional Development’ for their Accreditation.
