TAFE NSW expands fee-free professional learning opportunities for the ECEC sector

Early childhood education and care (ECEC) professionals across New South Wales are being encouraged to register for a growing suite of fee-free professional learning opportunities through the TAFE NSW ECEC Professional Learning Program.
Developed in partnership with the NSW Department of Education, the program offers educators, teachers and service leaders access to flexible, evidence-informed learning designed to strengthen professional practice, leadership capability and quality outcomes across the sector.
The initiative forms part of the NSW Government's ongoing investment in building a skilled, confident and sustainable ECEC workforce.
As services continue to respond to workforce shortages, changing regulatory expectations and increasing demands on leaders and educators, ongoing professional learning has become more important than ever.
The ECEC Professional Learning Program has been designed to provide practical, accessible learning opportunities that can be applied directly within education and care settings.
The program aims to support educators at all stages of their careers by strengthening professional knowledge, building leadership capability and encouraging reflective practice.
Recognising the diverse needs of the ECEC workforce, the program offers learning in a variety of formats, allowing participants to engage in ways that best suit their schedules and professional goals.
Current opportunities include:
- live webinars delivered by sector experts
- self-paced microskills
- leadership development programs
- face-to-face workshops
- online professional learning resources
- communities of practice and networking opportunities.
This flexible approach enables educators working across metropolitan, regional and remote New South Wales to access professional learning regardless of their location or work commitments.
The program covers a range of topics that reflect current priorities across the ECEC sector.
Available learning includes professional development focused on leadership, inclusive practice, curriculum and pedagogy, while specialised microskills support educators to strengthen knowledge in areas such as autism awareness and recognising developmental concerns through the Learn the Signs. Act Early. initiative.
By providing practical strategies and evidence-informed guidance, the program aims to help educators build confidence and apply new learning within their everyday practice.
Beyond supporting individual educators, the program also focuses on strengthening leadership capability across the sector.
Effective leadership plays a critical role in educator wellbeing, workforce retention and continuous quality improvement. By supporting leaders to build their knowledge and confidence, the program contributes to stronger governance, improved team culture and better outcomes for children and families.
The initiative aligns closely with the National Quality Framework's emphasis on continuous improvement, recognising that high-quality education and care is underpinned by ongoing learning and professional reflection.
The ECEC Professional Learning Program forms part of the NSW Government's broader investment in workforce capability, recognising that accessible professional learning is essential to attracting, retaining and supporting a skilled early childhood workforce.
Removing financial barriers through fee-free access enables more educators to participate in ongoing professional development while continuing to work in the sector.
As expectations continue to evolve across early childhood education and care, initiatives such as the ECEC Professional Learning Program provide educators and service leaders with practical opportunities to strengthen capability, share knowledge and continue improving outcomes for children.
Eligible educators, teachers and service leaders working in New South Wales can register through the TAFE NSW website.
New webinars, microskills and professional learning opportunities continue to be released throughout the program, giving participants ongoing access to contemporary learning that supports both individual career development and continuous quality improvement across the sector.
