New public preschools break ground in Macquarie Fields and Ingleburn

Construction has commenced on two new public preschools in south-western Sydney, marking a significant step in improving access to early childhood education across New South Wales. The new facilities, Curran Public Preschool and Sackville Street Public Preschool, are part of the state’s largest-ever public preschool expansion initiative, underpinned by a $769 million investment from the NSW Government.
Situated alongside existing public schools, both preschools are scheduled to open by early 2027 and will each cater for up to 80 children per week. The centres will offer fee-free, play-based early education, aligning with the NSW Department of Education’s commitment to equity, accessibility and high-quality early learning outcomes.
Local Member for Macquarie Fields Anoulack Chanthivong said “I’m delighted that work is starting on the new public preschools and I share the community’s excitement about seeing the preschools take shape over the coming months.
Acting Minister for Education and Early Learning Courtney Houssos emphasised the importance of delivering accessible, quality early education in high-growth areas. “The Minns Labor Government, with the leadership of Deputy Premier Prue Car, made this historic commitment because we strongly believe all children should have access to high-quality early education, no matter their postcode.”, she said.
School leaders have also expressed enthusiasm for the project. Nicole Wade, Principal at Curran Public School, welcomed the opportunity to provide “strong foundations for future learning and development,” while Kylie Lyneham, Principal at Sackville Street Public School, described the initiative as “a wonderful opportunity” for families to engage with early learning in a supportive, community-based setting.
These new preschools are part of a broader strategy to build 100 public preschools across NSW by 2027, with a focus on co-locating services on existing public school sites. The approach is designed to strengthen school readiness, improve continuity of learning, and promote inclusive, child-centred environments.
This development forms part of the state’s ongoing work to meet National Quality Framework goals, strengthen transition-to-school pathways, and support working families through accessible, high-quality early learning.
