Queensland Government launches Empowering Women grants to support financial security and leadership opportunities

The Queensland Government has opened applications for the first round of its Empowering Queensland Women (EQW) Grants Program, offering community-based organisations up to $10,000 in funding to improve women’s economic participation and leadership across the state.

Delivered in two rounds the program aims to address economic inequality and empower women and girls, particularly in rural and remote areas by supporting initiatives focused on financial literacy, skills training, leadership development, and networking.

Round one will distribute $270,000, with applications open until 30 October 2025. Eligible applicants include incorporated not-for-profits, Indigenous corporations, Queensland universities, incorporated associations, and local government authorities.

Fiona Simpson, Queensland’s Minister for Women and the state’s first Minister for Women’s Economic Security, said the grants will support community organisations that are working to remove barriers and foster long-term change.

“The Empowering Queensland Women Grants Program focuses on empowering women and girls across Queensland to achieve their full potential by supporting organisations making a real difference in the community,” Minister Simpson said.

The program forms part of the Queensland Government’s broader focus on improving economic outcomes for women. It builds on recent initiatives including the development of the state’s first Women’s Economic Security Strategy, the $20 million program to support women returning to the workforce, and the release of the Women’s Economic Security and Wellbeing Report.

Sandy Smith, President of the National Council of Women of Queensland, welcomed the initiative, highlighting the significance of financial security and leadership development in fostering systemic change.

“Empowering women strengthens families, builds resilient communities, and drives positive change for all Queenslanders. We strongly encourage organisations to apply and make a lasting impact.” she said.

Applications will be assessed based on their potential impact, alignment with the program’s objectives, and the applicant’s capacity to deliver. Successful recipients must meet funding conditions, including holding appropriate public liability insurance.
