NSW Department of Education begins consultation to select 100 new preschool sites

The New South Wales Department of Education has commenced consultation to select locations for 100 new preschools on public school sites to boost access to early learning in areas of need.
All new public primary schools built in NSW will have a preschool on their grounds, as the government sets the foundations for providing universal access to preschool. The NSW Government will deliver 100 preschools on NSW public school sites and 50 new or upgraded preschools facilities on non-government school sites.
As with the Victorian model, the NSW Government believes that co-locating preschools with schools will help families and support children with a smooth transition to kindergarten.
As well as new primary school sites, additional locations will be selected based on analysis of factors such as educational need, child development outcomes and projected future demand for preschool.
Urban planning and property development expert Abigail Goldberg has been appointed as an independent expert reviewer to ensure an equitable selection of sites where preschool will deliver the best outcomes for children and communities.
Consultation processes have started with local school principals and will include local service providers.
