Muylatina Child and Family Learning Centre opens to serve East Tamar community

The new muylatina (pronounced moy-lah-tee-nah) Child and Family Learning Centre has opened its doors to families in Tasmania’s East Tamar community, providing a safe and welcoming space for parents, carers and young children.

The service is part of the Tasmanian Government’s $28 million commitment to build six new Child and Family Learning Centres across Tasmania, with the muylatina centre the first to open.

muylatina has been community-led with local people involved in the process of designing and shaping the centre from the beginning.

“The opening of this centre further supports the strong collaborative partnerships that have been established throughout the build, including through Pop Up Play sessions held across the local community and the introduction of oral language and Bush Kinder programs that encourage children to learn and grow through play,” said Simon Wood, Liberal Member for Bass.

Located next to the East Tamar Primary School, this new centre will provide advice on health and family matters, as well as access to education and training for families from the areas of Newnham, Mowbray, Invermay, Rocherlea, Mayfield and Lilydale, as well as providing a safe and welcoming place with wraparound support for children, parents and carers. 

Construction of the centre also supported Tasmania’s economy with local family-owned building firm Anstie Constructions delivering the facility.

Mr Wood congratulated the staff, families and members of the Local Enabling Group on the opening of the muylatina centre.

“Thank you for the vision, dedication and hard work that has gone into creating this innovative space for the community to enjoy and share,” he said.
