Power of the Book: connecting children with literature – 3 part online series

By encouraging children to enjoy listening to and reading books we support them to develop their understanding of the world around them, use their imagination and develop language and literacy skills. Join us in this webinar series to explore the power of literature.

 

Part 1 The tools and techniques for reading well aloud with children

Date: Thursday 5 August
Time: 4.15pm – 5.00pm

 

The first webinar will support educators understanding of the specific techniques required to read well with children and the art of reading aloud. It also offers educators some specific strategies to support children’s connections with literature whilst learning at home using digital technologies.

 

Part 2 Creating a culture for literacy in your centre

Date: Thursday 12 August
Time: 4.15pm – 5.00pm

This session looks to the responsibilities of an educator to create literature rich play spaces which invite children into a relationship with educators, each other and books. Educators will learn about the social, physical and temporal environments which support connections through literature and the learning outcomes associated with this provisioning.

 

Part 3 Literacy and inquiry, exploring the powerful dynamic of literacy and learning

Date: Thursday 19 August
Time: 4.15pm – 5.00pm

 

The final webinar will support educators to critically evaluate their own libraries and explore the plethora of literature relevant in the early childhood environment, including the growing number of digital offerings. The session will highlight how literature can foster inquiry-based learning and springboard an interest into an adventure.

 

This event is suitable for all early childhood professionals.
