This OSHC service is on the shores of Lake Macquarie on the traditional land of the Awabakal nation. Awabakal Country is in Australia on the east coast. North of Sydney, it encompasses the modern cities of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, and surrounding areas. The Awabakal people played a significant part in shaping the environment of their region. They practiced fire-stick farming extensively, which helped them to hunt and to navigate through dense prickly scrub along the coast.
