The Opportunity

As the Business Partner (Health and Safety), you will report to the Head of People Partnership & Performance and collaborate closely with the Head of Health and Safety, P&C Business Partners, and operational leaders. In this role, you will lead the implementation of documented safety systems, investigate incidents, support the development of a proactive safety culture, and drive continuous improvement by monitoring, reporting, and escalating actions until completed.

Your day-to-day

No two days are the same; this role is diverse, with depth and breadth to cement your career, now and into the future. Areas of core responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in the maintenance, review, continuous improvement, and implementation of an integrated Health, Safety, and Sustainability management system that complies with legislative requirements, the National Quality Framework, ISO45001 (Safety Management), and ISO14001 (Environmental Management).
  • Monitoring and reviewing the safety incident investigation system, ensuring improvement actions are documented and completed within set timeframes, while managing the escalation process for unresolved actions.
  • Leading and supporting the investigation of incidents by guiding operational leaders through root cause analysis, control improvements, and remediation actions.
  • Analyzing data from various sources to identify improvement opportunities and, in collaboration with stakeholders, developing innovative solutions to address identified risks or issues.
  • Supporting the local implementation of the incident reporting and investigation framework.
  • Contributing to G8 Education’s safety strategy and participating in cross-departmental strategic initiatives, projects, or programs.
  • Monitoring Health and Safety performance locally and assisting operational leaders in identifying trends and implementing improvement measures. 

About You

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following skills and experiences:

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in an operational Health, Safety, and Wellbeing role.
  • Experience managing workers’ compensation claims.
  • Proven experience leading safety investigations.
  • Highly developed problem-solving, IT, collaboration, coordination, and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • A demonstrated ability to coach and mentor leaders, driving positive change.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • A track record of developing, implementing, and continuously improving safety management systems.
  • Possession of, or willingness to obtain, a valid Working with Children Check.
