Announcement: Community Child Care Association becomes It Takes A Village
From 1 October, Community Child Care Association, a national voice of community based education and care services, will become It Takes A Village.
Chief Executive Officer Daniela Kavoukas says this change will strengthen the organisation’s ability to champion the needs of the sector.
‘This has been an exceptionally challenging year for everyone working in the sector, as well as the families and children who rely on education and care,’ Ms. Kavoukas said.
‘Our organisation has always been focused on building a sustainable, community based sector with a well-resourced workforce that delivers high-quality education and care. Our new name will take us into the future and allow us to continue advocating for evidence-informed reform that delivers real change for our communities.’
There will be no change to the services, support and advocacy It Takes A Village offers to the almost 800 member services it represents across the country.
The new name is inspired by the African proverb, ‘It takes a village to raise a child’. The organisation is founded on the idea that the ‘village’ must include free access to quality early education and outside school hours care (OSHC) for every child in Australia.
Established in 1971, It Takes A Village has actively contributed to many significant reforms in the sector, including setting up Australia’s first community-based childcare centres, advocating for the establishment of the National Quality Framework and negotiating a government-funded 15% pay rise for teachers and educators.
Their new website can be found at ItTakesAVillage.org.au from 1 October.
