ACT prepares to celebrate Children’s Week 2025 with focus on rights, voices and community
Communities across the ACT are being invited to celebrate Children’s Week 18 to 26 October, recognising the rights, achievements and voices of children and young people.
Built on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), Children’s Week is a national celebration held annually around the fourth Wednesday in October. It encourages schools, early childhood services, community organisations and families to create meaningful opportunities for children to connect, express themselves and be recognised as active citizens.
In the ACT, the week is coordinated by the ACT Children’s Week Committee, a volunteer-led group supporting local organisations to hold inclusive, creative events. Activities often include art exhibitions, cultural storytelling, nature walks and intergenerational experiences.
To help bring ideas to life, the ACT Children’s Week Committee is offering small seeding grants for individuals, schools, early learning centres and community groups. Funding can support activities such as art displays, cultural showcases, storytelling sessions and shared events between generations.
Online applications are now open. Further details are available here.
Children’s Week is also a time to acknowledge adults and young people making a difference in the lives of children. The ACT Children’s Week Awards celebrate carers, educators, volunteers and advocates who are contributing to children’s wellbeing, learning and participation.
Nominations are now open and can be accessed here.
The ACT Children’s Week Committee works in line with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, promoting environments where children feel valued, respected and safe.
As the 2025 celebrations approach, educators, families and community members are encouraged to get involved, whether by hosting an event, applying for a grant, nominating a changemaker or amplifying children’s voices.
