Celebrating the heart of every centre: Guardian’s centre leaders day returns for a third year

Thursday 19 June marked Centre Leaders Day, a Guardian initiative now in its third year. The event recognises the vital contribution of Centre Leadership Teams including Centre Managers, Assistant Centre Managers, and Educational Leaders who shape dynamic, nurturing environments where children thrive, families feel supported, and educators are empowered to excel.
These leaders play a pivotal role in the culture and quality of every early learning environment. They are mentors, guides, and collaborators, and their work touches every aspect of centre life from daily operations to the long-term growth of their teams and the outcomes for children in their care.
Championing Leadership with Purpose and Impact
Being a Centre Leader is no small task. It’s a role grounded in service, leadership, and a deep commitment to community. At Guardian, this dedication is not only recognised, it’s celebrated.
“Centre Leaders Day is our opportunity to shine a light on the incredible individuals who lead with intent, compassion and professionalism,” said Kathryn Waugh, Chief Quality and Curriculum Officer. “They are the heartbeat of our centres, and their impact is immeasurable.”
Across Guardian’s national network, Centre Leaders Day is marked by unique celebrations. Centres take the opportunity to express gratitude through handwritten messages, gift packs, and shared tributes with heartfelt messages from families, educators, and Guardian leadership.
Supporting Leaders to Thrive
At Guardian, leadership is seen as a journey one supported by professional learning, development, and a clear framework for success. Through its Thrive framework, Guardian provides tools and strategies that support Centre Leaders to lead confidently and consistently, improving team engagement and operational excellence.
Ongoing development is a core part of Guardian’s leadership pathway, with tailored opportunities for growth and access to professional benefits designed to support career progression in early childhood education and care.
Leadership Begins with Mindset
Underpinning all leadership at Guardian is a commitment to mindset showing up with positivity, courage and purpose, even during challenging times. It is this mindset that helps Centre Leaders create calm, collaborative, and enriching environments for children and educators alike.
“To every Guardian Centre Leader thank you,” said Liz, a Curriculum Mentor at Guardian. “Your presence, your positivity, and your purpose-driven leadership are what make our centres feel like home.”
Looking to the Future
As the sector continues to evolve, the need for strong, values-led leadership has never been more important. Centre Leaders Day is a powerful reminder of the influence these professionals have in shaping quality outcomes for children, families, and teams. At Guardian, the celebration may last one day but the commitment to leadership is year-round.
